VISTA Healthplans Announces 1st Annual Commit to Kids Day
to Benefit His House Children’s Home
Project aimed at making a positive difference in the lives of children
in need
SUNRISE, FL – May 8, 2007 – VISTA Healthplans (VISTA) announced today that it
will be conducting its 1st Annual Commit to Kids Day on Friday, May 18th. The
beneficiary of this year’s activity will be His House Children’s Home (HHCH), a
non-profit social services agency whose mission is to defend the cause of
children in need, by providing residential, case management, foster care,
adoption and counseling services. Through on-site cottages staffed with loving
house parents, HHCH offers residential care for over 60 children and supports
over 325 in foster care, ranging in age from newborn to 18 years old.
As part of Commit to Kids Day, VISTA employees and their families will work
together to bring life to a new cottage at HHCH - transforming it from an empty
building to a comfortable and safe environment. “VISTA is dedicated to being a
proactive community partner,” said Peter Joseph, senior vice president of
commercial sales.
“Children are the community’s most precious members. By setting aside a day to
make a positive difference in a child’s life we are making an invaluable
investment in Florida’s future.”
On Commit to Kids Day participants will be responsible for assembling and
arranging furniture, decorating rooms, landscaping the front yard and anything
else necessary to create a cozy and safe environment - a place where its youth
residents can grow and have fun.
“We are extremely grateful for this opportunity to connect with new friends,”
said HHCH Development Director Iris Marrero. “It is with the help of community
partners like VISTA that make it possible for us to add those extra beds for
hurting children who need a place to call home.”
VISTA is underwriting the
cost to purchase the furniture and major appliances - valued at approximately
$10,000 - necessary to transform the cottage into a place to call home for the
11 children and two adults who will reside in it. Furthermore, the company
launched an internal three week campaign to encourage its employees to purchase
items from a wish list that HHCH set-up through Target. Up until Friday, May
11th employees can buy items from a list of over 280 household appliances and
accessories ranging from shower curtains to pillows and comforter sets to wall
art.
